AutoCAD 2005 Sheet Set Manager:

Defining a New Sheet Set

Author: Alireza Parsai

A sheet set is a list of drawing layouts that are somehow related to each other. Every drawing layout is considered as a single sheet. Only Paper Space layouts are applicable. So you need to use those drawings that contain at least one Paper Space layout. If a drawing contains more than a layout you may refer to each layout as a different sheet. The list of sheets and other related information is kept in a file with the DST extension. The DST file builds the necessary sheet list information. However the original drawing files are not included in the file. Therefore the size of the DST file is relatively small. Let's build a DST file.

Notes:

►  Click here for the table of contents.

This tutorial is designed for AutoCAD 2005.

In this tutorial user entries are in boldface.

The ¿  symbol represents pressing Enter.

► Make sure to download the "scarborough_project.zip" file. Unzip the file to C:\.

1. Start AutoCAD 2005. If the Sheet Set Manager is not enabled by default, select the Tools > Sheet Set Manager option to enable it. In the Sheet Set Manager dialog box from the list of sheets select the New Sheet Set option. The first page of the Create Sheet Set wizard appears.

2. Since we are going to create the sheet set based on some existing drawings make sure that Existing Drawings option is selected. Click Next. On the next page in the "Name of Sheet Set" box, type Scarborough Project. Click the ellipsis button next to the "Store Sheet Set Data File" box. Select the "scarborough_project" folder for the DST file location. Click Open. The dialog box should look like the one shown in the following figure. Click Next. The Choose Layout page will appear.

3. Click Browse. Select the "scarborough_project" folder. All existing drawings and their layouts appear on the list. Deselect the house_views.dwg file. Also deselect the files that their names end to view_indicator, callout_block, and power_plan.

4. Click Next. Click Finish. The Scarborough sheet set is defined and layouts are shown on the SSM dialog box.

With the preceding tutorial you managed to define a new sheet set. The sheet set file or rather the DST file contains the needed information about sheets. Don't close the Sheet Set Manager – SSM – dialog box. We will use it in the rest of tutorials.
